Womens Keelboat Championships

May 24, 2018

Sail Canada has announced that Toronto’s Mimico Cruising Club (MCC) will be hosting the 2018 Women’s Keelboat Championships. Located in beautiful Humber Bay Park West in Toronto, MCC offers sailing right on Lake Ontario and has a strong reputation in the sailing community.

MCC is excited to deliver an event that will provide great pre- race training, challenging racing, and engaging social activities, while working to raise the bar for competitive women’s sailing. They are putting together an experienced team of race officers, members and volunteers to run a high quality event. MCC hosted the very successful 2002 Sharks Worlds and is excited to have International Race Officer, Irene McNeill return as the Principal Race Officer for this event.

The event will be held from September 13th – 16th, 2018 with competitors racing the Shark keelboat; the Shark has a strong connection to the Toronto sailing community, with large fleets regularly being raced in Toronto Harbour and Humber Bay. Both the Canadian Shark Class Association and North Shore Shark Association are supporting the 2018 Women’s Keelboat Championships.

The Women’s Keelboat Championship is a national event that is open to competitors across the country. It is hosted annually, rotating through the western, central, and eastern regions of Canada. Typically, it is held between mid-August and mid-September, over four days with one day of training, and three days of racing.
