The 2024 J105 Ontario Women’s Championship is coming to the Royal Canadian Yacht Club on August 17th, 2024. This Championship is all about women sailors putting their racing skills into action and about creating opportunities to gain experience and learn from each other.

Participants range from teens to seniors, representing all skill levels, from novices in J105 sailing to seasoned racers, such as Canada Games 2.4m Para Mix Sailing Gold Medalist, Siobhan MacDonald, and Olympian Sarah Douglas. The Race Management Team consists of highly skilled women, including Race Committee officer, Lynn McNeil, and Judge, Wendy Loat. This year, we are honoured to announce that Sharon Green, a famed Canadian sailing photographer, will be covering this event for the first time. Each year, a committee of women plans the event, including coaching sessions with volunteer highly skilled coaches. This year’s committee is led by Michelle Skutelsky, assisted by former (and founding) Chair Kathy Pask.

This is the 4th J105 Ontario Woman’s Championship, and each year the event has attracted numerous spectators, media coverage, and generous donations. The post-sailing dinner and awards ceremony are a highlight of the event, with formal dining, themed attire, live music, and fantastic awards. All this would not be possible without the generous and ongoing support of Scotia Wealth Management & The Mountford Group. This year, we are excited to announce the additional sponsorship from The Scotiabank Women Initiative® and their longstanding support for women in sports. Other sponsors include The Charter Yacht Company and Fogh Marine.

The J105 Ontario Women’s Championship was the first of its kind inspiring other J105 Women’s Championships south of the border, including Annapolis, San Francisco, and Seattle. There are discussions in the works for a potential North American Invitational Championship in the future.

Any female sailors who are interested in joining, are welcome to complete this form. For more information, check out the Facebook page, and Instagram.
