World Sailing has approved changes and corrections to the Racing Rules of Sailing 2021-2024 which became effective on January 1st. The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS) are updated every 4 years.

52nd Southern Straits Classic set for April 15-17, 2022
The West Vancouver Yacht Club (WVYC) is excited to welcome back the Southern Straits Regatta after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 52nd running of the Easter weekend race will see sailors crisscrossing Georgia Strait testing their strategy, skill, and endurance while racing overnight in early season conditions.

Mainsail: Expanding Sailing Even During Pandemic
This week the Ontario Sailing Board of Directors committed to invest over $60,000 in the Mainsail Program for the coming 2022 season. The investment will include the purchase of eight new RS Zest boats and a new trailer thanks to the assistance in the purchase of Fogh Marine and RS Sailing.

National Team: Canadians Shine at US Open
Two-time Olympian in sailing Tom Ramshaw took second place overall at the 2022 US Open Sailing Series held January 15-17, which ended Monday in Fort Lauderdale, USA, while taking part in the ILCA 7 (Laser) event, a class the Canadian sailor had not competed in since 2015.

Ontario Offshore Personal Survival Courses Scheduled for March
Two Offshore Personal Survival and Safety at Sea Courses will be held in Ontario this spring. In 2003, ISAF (now World Sailing) introduced a standard basic syllabus for the training of safety courses in order to establish an Internationally recognized qualification. The training requirements form part of the Offshore Special Regulations.

PCYC Learn To Sail Racers “Represent” at This Year’s Orange Bowl Regatta in Miami
Port Credit Yacht Club, located on Lake Ontario, has an emerging Learn to Sail Racing program that has youth sailors participating in various International events. Over a dozen PCYC sailors made their way to Miami over the Christmas break to train and compete in the US’s largest Christmas season youth regatta – Orange Bowl.
