AQVA Regatta raises $65K

AQVA Learn RaceThe 9th annual Regatta for AQVA was held in Montreal’s West Island on Saturday August 21st 2021 and raised over $65,000 for the adapted sailing program run by l’Association québécoise de voile adaptée (AQVA).

Forty-four sailboats from various local yacht clubs participated in a beautiful day of pursuit race, cocktails, awards and dancing, hosted by the Royal Saint-Lawrence Yacht Club in Dorval. The fleet included keelboats, dinghies from local race teams, and Martin 16s for sailors with disabilities. Some powerboats were also present to witness this special annual community event.

Each boat raised money through the online platform and an online auction also raised funds. The AQVA allows over 200 sailors to leave their wheelchairs on the dock and benefit from the freedom of this wonderfully adapted sport!

Now in its ninth year, the largest fundraising regatta in Québec is organized by a team of volunteers who bring to life an event that raises funds to allow a maximum number of sailors with disabilities to enjoy the freedom and excitement of the adapted sport. Founded by RSTLYC members, the Regatta is the greatest source of income for the Association.
