Written in Partnership with North Sails: More than 140 Boats Expected for Chester Race Week

The impressive Bluenose fleet

Chester Race Week is one of those events you always want to put on your calendar. With a long history and competitive classes, sailors flock to small town Chester for the four day racing spectacle; which is of course, accompanied by lively post racing socials, in true East coast style.

Over 140 boats are expected to race at Chester this year across the three courses and eight fleets. Our North Sails team will be on hand throughout the event to support racers and the event team themselves. The Atlantic division of North Sails will be available for regatta support should any rips or tears occur. As well, local North Sails expert, and Nova Scotia native, Drew Mitchell will be giving a sailors talk, with local tips, tricks & weather knowledge, on Thursday morning August 15th at 9am by the flagpole at Chester Yacht Club.

Drew shares, “Chester Race is by far my favourite regatta of the year. Between the racing, sailors and the social events in a historic seaside community, you really can’t beat it. I race in the Bluenose fleet which is a classic 22′ sloop designed off the lines off the famous Bluenose Schooner. The Bluenose fleet’s numbers and skill has grown significantly over the last ten years with 30+ boats on the line for the last few Race weeks. No matter what type of racer you are Chester Race Week has a division for you, hope to see you on the waters of Mahone Bay this summer.”

North Sails expert Alexander Levkovskiy adds “Last year, I had the opportunity to participate in Chester Race Week by racing in the Bluenose fleet. The venue, exceptional organization, dedicated volunteers, and welcoming community make this event truly special. I look forward to returning to Chester this summer.”

We look forward to being more involved with and supporting an event with such a long and unique history. The noise from Chester Race Week cannot be ignored and it promises to be another one for the history books.
