The Shark fleet took over Whitby Yacht Club on August 23–24 for the 2025 Canadian Championships, and what a weekend it was. With 38 crews from across Ontario and Quebec making the trip, the docks were buzzing with energy before a single race even started.

Mother Nature did her part, serving up classic Lake Ontario conditions — steady breezes between 8 and 14 knots both days. The race committee kept things moving smoothly, firing off all six races.

The racing was tight at the top, but Peter Van Rossem (KYC) showed consistency all weekend to take home the championship. Graham Jones (NYC) pushed hard for second, while Peter Aker (BQYC)sailed strong to round out the top three. Levi Harper and James Gardner, both from NOLSC, kept the heat on and finished fourth and fifth.

On shore, Whitby Yacht Club absolutely shone as host. From the race committee to the mark boat drivers, to the folks running registration and serving dinner. The volunteer team made sure everything ran like clockwork. The Shark Class is truly grateful for all their effort in pulling together such a memorable event.

There are still two events left on the 2025 Shark Class calendar — details are up at Shark24.ca. A special shout-out as well to the youth crews in the fleet; the Shark Class is proud to cover two regatta registrations each season to help keep the next generation on the water.
