RC44 Bermuda Cup – Team Aqua Prevails Again

Mar 8, 2016

Day two of the RC44 Bermuda Cup threw up less rip roaring conditions. Instead the lighter, more shifty winds placed greater pressure on the tacticians and more emphasis on each crew’s finesse, rather than brute force and survival.

As was the case yesterday, early on today there was a substantial collision, with Igor Lah’s Team CEEREF T-boning Torbjörn Törnqvist’s Artemis Racing shortly after the start of race one. This left the latter with a massive hole in her topsides and unable to race for the remainder of the day.

With conditions expected to turn poor later in the week, PRO Peter Reggio chose to hold four rather than three races and this produced three different winners. Continuing her winning ways from yesterday’s match racing was Vladimir Liubomirov’s Bronenosec Sailing Team which claimed the opening race. However after being disqualified following their collision and receiving an additional three point penalty, Team CEEREF bounced back with a 1-3-1 scoreline, leaving her in fourth place overall, one behind Artemis Racing which received average four points/race redress for her races lost today.

Sailing the most consistent day was once again Team Aqua. After coming out on top in the match racing yesterday, with no finishes off the podium today, Chris Bake’s crew once again ended up in first place overall, on nine points, two clear of second placed Bronenosec Sailing Team.

Racing continues with three days of fleet racing. Follow the racing via the live blog at www.rc44.com.
