International Competition: Canadians Flash at NYYC Invitational

September 25, 2025
The Rolex New York Yacht Club Invitational Cup returned for the ninth edition of this historic international yacht club challenge. The event was run for the fourth time in the Club’s fleet of IC37s. These boats—all maintained by the same team to the same exacting standards—once again provided the ultimate platform for high energy, amateur sailing on a completely level platform.

The two Canadian teams distinguished themselves; Team Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, including Alec Coleman, Arthur Gooch, Julia Mamen, Nicole Minielly, Travish Minielly, Matthew Stranaghan, Jason Vandergaag, Ben Mumford and Hunter Lowden, took the 3rd with bullets in two races while the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, including Scott Collinson, Drew Davidson, Chantal Hearst, Lauren Laventure, Ingrid Merry, Tyler Meyrick, Liam Millen, Lance Fraser and Greg Douglas, finished 7th with a pair of 2s as best result.

Twenty teams from 12 countries competed in the 2025 event. Since the event was first run in 2009, it has attracted top amateur sailors from 52 of the world’s most prestigious yacht clubs from 23 countries. The Royal Canadian Yacht Club (Toronto, Canada), led by Olympic silver medalist Terry McLaughlin, won in 2011 and 2013.
