Helly Hansen announces Chester prize winner

As part of Chester Race Week this year, Helly Hansen once again awarded a Grand Prize of a trip on an Ocean Race Yacht with Atlas Ocean Racing between Bermuda and Halifax in May 2020.

To win the Grand Prize, participants were invited to race against each other to tie three classic nautical knots as fast as possible: the clove hitch, the figure eight and the bowline. The winner of each race won an entry to the contest. The winner was determined by a random draw on Saturday, August 17.

Helly Hansen is happy to announce that the winner of the Nautical Knots Challenge is Paul Mazzocco from Nova Scotia. This year Paul held the same role as last year’s winner, Kristina Gilbert, serving as a race official for the Bluenose Fleet. His skilled knot tying earned four entries to the draw.

Included in this great prize is up to $2,000 in airfare plus $1,000 retail value in Helly Hansen clothing and accessories, perfect for the adventure. Paul is beyond excited to join Atlas Ocean Racing in Bermuda in May 2020.

The May One Design Series Regatta was held at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on the May 6/7 weekend. Fleets included a mixed collection, old and new: Dragon, Elliott 6 SuperSport, 6mR, Star, Martin242 and VX-1.

I guess it’s true what they say. The only thing that stays the same is change. Regattas are not what they used to be. Gone are they days of 20 boat rafts, tents filing the yacht club grounds and beer trucks lining the streets to serve hundreds of sailors.

Officials play a key role in any sailing race or regatta! Sail Canada Race Officer, Judge and Umpire programs provide training and certification from the Club to National level, with World Sailing providing International Certification.

Excitement is building for the 2011 Lake Ontario Challenge

Preparations for the 2011 Lake Ontario 300 are well underway as boats continue to register for this challenging and exciting race. Last year the fleet was hit with severe storms early on forcing many to retire. Most of these boats are returning this year to complete the course and 'deal with unfinished business'.

The race begins on Saturday July 16th and the participants will race in a range of categories including, single handed, double handed and fully crewed divisions. Boats competing vary from fast, sleek 40 foot sleds to more traditional racer-cruisers and multi-hulls.
