Difficult Days for Canada SailGP

October 9, 2025

The 11th event of the Rolex SailGP Championship unfolded this weekend in Cádiz, Spain.  All 12 international teams faced choppy and challenging conditions, with shifty light winds on the Bay of Cádiz.

Racing with four crew onboard Saturday and five Sunday, the teams were foiling for most of the weekend, in front of fans who filled the grandstands and lined the shoreline.

Despite moments of promise, the NorthStar SailGP Team battled through day one finishing 7th, 9th, 7th and 8th. Sunday show one shining moment.  A stellar start in the final race of the day delivered a 3rd place finish, but coupled with an 11th and 9th, translated into 10th overall in Cadiz for the team.

“Not the starts or the day we needed,” said Driver Giles Scott after racing concluded. “It was another difficult event for the team. We are trying plenty of new things, with the goal of building a foundation for next season.  The reality is that our key areas to focus on are starting and sailing the boat accurately. We know we are capable, but we have let it slip recently.”

EmiratesGBR now lead the overall Rolex SailGP Championship standings following onf rom their victory in Cadiz.  The Black Foils ultimately secured second place, while the Germany SailGP Team finished third.

NorthStar still sits 6th overall on the Rolex SailGP Championship leaderboard as the fleet heads to Abu Dhabi for the grand final which will take place on 29–30 November.
