My Obsession During the Endless Winter Months – Part 2

SinC Marc Robic Ebb Tide

By Marc Robic

Last time SinC introduced you to the amazing work of amateur model builder, Marc Robic of Montreal, in Part 1 in his own words. In this instalment, Marc recounts how his model making obsession just kept growing!

The following year, friends of ours, Richard and Denise, purchased a C&C 34 and, based out of the Royal St-Lawrence Yacht Club, they are very active and doing extremely well in the racing scene here in Montreal. Ghost Owl is a truly remarkable boat and, of course, I had to make a model. So I snuck over to the yacht club to take dozen’s of pictures and measurement and it became that winter’s project.

The following winter was EBB TIDE, a Columbia 8.5 owned by Denise and Robert at our club, the Ile-Perrot Yacht Cub. This boat also has special meaning to me, as I sailed her back to Montreal from the Thousand Island when its previous owner and friend, Frank, first purchased her.

She also had special meaning, as she was owned by the Doug (also a former Harbour Master at our club) until she was sold to Diane and Rudy, two wonderful fellow members of the club.  She too was a challenge with her transom and form shaping swim ladder. The teak cockpit table and cup holder was also quite the challenge, taking 3 attempts!

My last project was a very special one. A self designed tug boat that is also a night light as the cabin lights up. I built that especially for my grand son Matteo. The Humpback whale on the bow is his favorite animal.
