Sailing Shorts: Terry McLaughlin inducted into the J/105 Fleet 4 Hall of Fame

In early December, during the season awards party, Terry McLaughlin, silver medalist at the 1984 Olympic Games in Flying Dutchman and Canada Cup champ among other accomplishments, was inducted into the J/105 Fleet 4 Hall of Fame.

A presentation and a speech from fellow hall of fame member, Michael Mountford, was appreciated by sailors from the VX1 and J/105 fleets.

The refreshed roster reflects NorthStar’s long-term commitment to performance development, technological innovation and the cultivation of top sailing talent in Canada.

  • Alex Sinclair – G1
  • Tim Hornsby – G1
  • Ali Ten Hove – Reserve
  • Nicolas Rolaz – Reserve
  • Georgia Lewin LaFrance – Reserve

New to NorthStar are Alex Sinclair and Nicolas Rolaz. Sinclair transfers to the team from RedBull Italy SailGP Team and brings a wealth of experience in the G1 role.

Rolaz joins the team as a ‘multi-tool’ reserve, bringing valuable experience from both the America’s Cup and the Swiss SailGP Team, in both grinding and flight control roles.

NorthStar also announced that Tim Hornsby will add to his sailing role and step into a newly defined position as Technical Director, where he will oversee performance and equipment development, including the integration of AI and emerging technologies. Hornsby will also serve as the lead liaison with the team’s technical partners.

The coaching group has expanded, with Lead Coach Joe Glanfield welcoming Ian Williams as Starts Coach. Bleddyn Mon will remain with NorthStar as Performance Analyst, working remotely throughout the season.

In line with NorthStar’s commitment to advancing female talent in Canadian sailing, Ali Ten Hove has joined as reserve strategist, while Georgia Lewin Lafrance has been retained on a long-term development pathway with the team.

Phil Kennard, CEO and Team Principal commented: “We are delighted to be announcing our line-up for the 2026 season, with the core of our team unchanged from the squad we fielded in our strong finish to last season in Abu Dhabi. In SailGP there is a premium on experience sailing together as a group, we feel that our line-up puts us in an excellent position to come out of the blocks strong in Perth. The strategic additions we have made both on-water and off will bolster the team.”
