Sail Canada announced today that its 2024 Sail Central regional championships will be held July 11-14 at the Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club (ABYC) in Toronto, ON. The event will be hosted during ABYC’s Seahorse Regatta which has been running since 2018. In 2023, it was also part of both the Ontario Sailing Grand Prix Development Series as well as the Eastern Region 29er Grand Prix Series.

Sail Canada 2024 Sail Central Championships will be part of a total of seven Sail Canada Regional and National Annual Championships in 2024. The calendar will also include Sail Canada Sail East and Sail West Regional Championships, as well as the Youth, Senior Kiteboarding, Senior ILCA 6 and ILCA 7, as well as Senior 49er and 49erFX Championships.

The notice of races as well as registration link for Sail Canada 2024 Sail Central Championships will be available in the upcoming months. Dates for all the other competitions will be communicated later. As a regional event, Sail Canada 2024 Sail Central Championships is aimed for sailors from Ontario and Quebec, yet athletes from other provinces are welcome. Traditionally and annually held between Ontario and Quebec, Sail Canada 2024 Sail Central Championships will be hosted in Ontario for the first time in the past 10 years. In 2023, close to 150 sailors took part in the competition held at Hudson Yacht Club in Hudson, Quebec, during the Fruitbowl Regatta.

Sail Canada Regional Championships provide a chance for sailors to train and compete with high-level sailors in their region in the U15 category (Optimist class), U17 (ILCA 4, ILCA 6, Club 420 and 29er classes) and Open (ILCA 4, ILCA 6, ILCA 7, Club 420, 29er and Optimist classes). In addition, this event serves as talent identification opportunities for regional and provincial sailing teams, along with training, development and mentoring opportunities for coaches, officials and volunteers

Helly Hansen is the proud prize sponsor for the 2024 Sail Canada Championships. Sail Canada Championships are funded – in part – by the Government of Canada.

The Canadian Team taking part in the 2024 SSL Gold Cup in the Canary Islands, Spain, took the 3rd spot in their pool after three races in the round of 16 and, as only the top two per fleet moves in the next round, did not qualify for the quarterfinals.

The team was led by captain Rob Hemming and includes Kyle Martin (RVYC), Chris Watters (AYC), Ansel Koehn (RVicYC), Jackson Macaulay (RNSYS), Ben Daniel (RVicYC/Nanaimo YC), Drew Mitchell (LYC/CYC), Alexander Levkovskiy (RVYC) and Ryan Wood (RVYC).

America’s Cup Preliminary Regatta Jeddah, November 27: For the first time the six teams of the 37th America’s Cup took to the waters of Jeddah for practice racing ahead of this week’s Preliminary Regatta. A series of fleet races in perfect conditions gave the crews a chance to test their boats and release some adrenalin – the result was plenty of drama and fast foiling action.

  • Alinghi Red Bull Racing team (SUI) took a dramatic nosedive
  • Orient Express Racing Team (FRA) retired early on due to boat damage
