Sail Canada and Canada SailGP Team Align for the Future

SinC Sail Canada SailGP Partnership

November 30, 2022

Last week, Sail Canada and Canada SailGP Team announced an official partnership between the two organizations to further promote and develop the sport nationwide, including developing foiling talent across the country.

Since the Canada SailGP Team debuted in Season 3 of SailGP in May 2022, more than 500 youth across the country have had the opportunity to take part in the team’s demo days and learn to foil training camps.

As the Paris 2024 Olympics approach, and include the iQFoil, there will be more opportunities for youth to try foiling, as well as learn about it through online learning tools and through the Canada SailGP Team’s community programmes.

Sail Canada and the Canada SailGP Team will also cooperate on the development of certification programs for foiling coaches in Canada, as well as certification for instructors under the Sail Canada guidelines.

“To have a SailGP Team in Canada is an additional amazing opportunity to showcase our sport in the country and we are pleased to announce this natural partnership with the Canada SailGP Team,” said Sail Canada Chief Executive Officer, Don Adams. “Foiling is one of many ways to enjoy sailing and we are excited to work with the Canada SailGP Team to develop certified instructors, coaches and athletes, as well as to foster interest and participation in competitive sailing through foiling and SailGP.”

SinC Sail Canada SailGP Partnership 2 400Select members of the National Sailing Team also have the opportunity to sail with Canada SailGP Team on the ultra-competitive international circuit, forging a new pathway for the country’s elite athletes.

“We are very pleased to be partnering with Sail Canada. We have a shared vision to grow the sport of sailing in Canada and by working together, I am confident that we will inspire a whole new generation of foiling sailors, coaches and fans,” said Jean-Sébastien Chénier Proteau, CEO of the Canada SailGP Team.

As a partner, the Sail Canada logo is proudly displayed on the Team’s hydro-foiling F50 catamaran that is competing in 11 events around the world this season.
