Eight Bells for Alexander James McAuley.

Alexander James Mcauley

Jan 14, 2021

Alex passed away on January 7, 2021 at 88 years of age. He will be remembered by the sailing community for his enthusiastic involvement as a long time member of the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club and Past Rear Commodore. As a Certified International Judge and Umpire, Alex and Audrey enjoyed traveling and being involved in regattas around the globe.

Alex was proud and happy to recently celebrate 65 years of marriage to his wife Audrey (Oates), with a family video party.

Although his career was with Stelco for 42 years, Alex’s proudest accomplishment in life was his family: Robert (Margaret), Mark (Pamela), Scott (Sharon Fawcett) and Kevin (Sheri Woods). Spending time together led to many of the hobbies and interests they continue to share; sailing, skiing and travel.

Legend Of Ontario Sailing Alex McAuley 2015 – President of Ontario Sailing Mark Searle presents the Legends of Ontario Sailing Award to Alex McAuley.
Many will remember Alex from his time as a ski instructor at Chedoke in Hamilton or Holiday Valley in Ellicottville, NY.

Alex’s quick wit and sense of humour has been inherited by all of his five grandchildren Austin, Brendan, Liam, Ryan and Alexandra. They will miss his continual support and encouragement.

Private service for family only and Alex’s wish for a Celebration of Life will take place when we can all get together again. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be contributed in Alex’s name to the Ontario Sailing Association on the Sail Canada website. Under the Funding Options section, please choose Ontario Sailing Programs from the dropdown and in the Special Instructions Section, please indicate that the donation is to be directed to the “Race Committee and Judges Training Programs.”

Fair winds and following seas Alexander.
