Whitby ON Shark guy, Matt Poulias, dreamt up a brilliant proposal. “Let’s go for a sail,” he suggested innocently enough. Once he headed out of the harbour with Kayla aboard, he unfurled the genny and… lo and behold!
Kayla who loves sailing as well as apparently the helmsman said YES… now they will sail off into Sharkie paradise!
Here is a common situation that requires an important decision. You are sailing upwind on port tack, converging with another boat on starboard tack (S). If you keep sailing straight you will hit the other boat, so you must make a choice about how you will keep clear of S.
Sails are attached to the sailboat rig using several different systems. Let’s begin with mainsails. The most basic attachment is with a boltrope that fits into a mast groove. This is very secure, and the sail is very well supported along the luff edge.
