One Design Keelboats: Martin 242s at Royal Vic’s Thermopylae Regatta!

This year’s M242 Fleet 2 Championships were held at Royal Victoria Yacht Club during the Thermopylae Regatta on October 5/6.

The winning Royal Vancouver Yacht Club Team was Michael Clements (Skipper), Adrienne Mennell (RVYC), Erica Crilly (RVYC)  and the fourth member of the team was Luzzara Mazariegos on Too Wicked!

Mike and Team were also awarded the Fleet 2 Championship  trophy (the M242 half model), the first time it’s ever been won by a non-Fleet-2 boat, plus the Royal Vic M242 Award (the big silver trophy)!

Races were held under mostly sunny skies on Saturday with variable wind speeds from 2-12 knots for the 6 races. Sunday was sunny all day with very light air for all 3 races. Both days saw flat water and extremely variable current with multiple streams on the course.

2024 RVYC Thermopylae Regatta (theclubspot.com) (The Regatta is named after one of the fastest and most famous clipper ships of its time. Thermopylae operated in the tea trade towards the end of the 19th century. Victoria’s Inner Harbour was her home port for several years)
