Port Credit Yacht Club (PCYC) announces dates for two of its premier annual sailing events: the 65th Steerers’ Invitational and the 23rd Four Sisters Open sponsored by DriveHG.ca. Taking place on July 18 and 19 and July 20 and 21, 2024, respectively, these events promise to deliver exhilarating competition and unforgettable experiences on Lake Ontario.

Building on the success of previous years, PCYC anticipates welcoming more than 500 sailors (!) from near and far to compete in a series of thrilling races across multiple boat classes including Optimists, ILCAs and double-handed C420s and 29ers. With top-rated Race Committees led by Principal Race Officer, David Sprague, ensuring fair and challenging courses, participants can look forward to showcasing their skills in optimal sailing conditions this summer.

Background

David Sprague, PRO, addressing the competitors

The Steerers’ Invitational goes back to 1959, when the junior instructors at Port Credit Yacht Club, under the direction of PCYC Fleet Captain Ron Searle, invited a few of the junior programs from neighbouring clubs to come to the mouth of the Credit River for a regatta. The event was such a success that it has been held every year since. This year, the event is open to Optimist (green, red, blue and white), Laser Radial (ILCA 6), Laser 4.7 (ILCA 4), 29er and Club 420 (white sail & spinnaker) fleets. As a learning regatta, coaching is encouraged and permitted in the back third of the fleet and participants can expect a supportive and nurturing environment conducive to personal growth and development.

As part of the Four Sisters Open, PCYC is proud to host the Club 420 Canadian Championship for the third consecutive year. Additionally, results from this prestigious event will be tallied as part of both the Ontario Sailing Grand Prix Development Series, and the Fogh Gold Cup Racing Series, attracting sailors eager to test their mettle against fierce competition. This event is open to all boats of the Laser (ILCA 7), Laser Radial (ILCA 6), Laser 4.7 (ILCA4), Club 420 White Sail or Spinnaker, 29er, and Optimist classes.

PCYC volunteers prepare last year’s goody bags

PCYC extends a warm invitation to sailors, coaches, and sailing enthusiasts to join in the excitement. With a legacy of excellence and a commitment to fostering a love for the sport of sailing, PCYC is proud to host these prestigious events and looks forward to welcoming participants from far and wide for a weekend of thrilling competition and camaraderie on the shores of Lake Ontario.
