Sarah Paris Fundraiser at ABYC Oct 13

SinC Sarah Douglas Fundraiser

October 4, 2023

Sarah Douglas has been Canada’s most successful National Team member in several years, and has secured Canada a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympics in the ILCA 6 (formerly Laser Radial) class. Although Canada’s Olympic sailing team has yet to be announced, Sarah will undoubtedly be selected. Her 6th place at the delayed Tokyo games was the best finish Canada’s women sailors have had at the Olympics.

Since Tokyo, Sarah has won two major World Sailing World Cup events – the Princess Sofia in 2022 and the Palma Cup in 2023. She placed first at the French Olympic Week Event and 5th at the Olympic Test Event this year. You can view all of her accomplishments at her website: sarahdouglassailing.com.

Funding an Olympic campaign is especially expensive when most of your competition is in Europe, and you live in Canada. Since COVID, we have all watched as the airlines have jacked up their prices. Although Sarah had a well planned budget for 2023 and 2024, with inflation causing her costs to rise significantly, more funding is needed. Her home club, Ashbridge’s Bay Yacht Club, is hosting a fundraising dinner with both a live and silent auction for Sarah on Friday, October 13, just before Sarah heads to Chile to represent Canada in the Pan American games and defend her gold medal.

Please join us. Tickets can be purchased on-line at https://abyc.ca/racing/regattas/, or scan the QR code on the poster. If you cannot attend the dinner, you can still donate to Sarah’s campaign at https://www.windathletes.ca/athletes/sarah-douglas or feel free to browse around the Wind Athletes donation website to support other Canadian sailors and programs.
