From sailing 8-Metres in Port Credit to sailing adventures hither and yon, our pal and occasional foredeck, D Danger Mitchele, is never one to be overheated even now that he’s residing in sunny Spain. A Red Deer sea cadet has been given a prestigious award for ranking in the top 10 of over 700 sea cadets province wide. At the Cormack Armoury, Cadet Hannah Bennett, now ranked Chief Petty Officer Second Class (CPO2), was given the Navy League of Canada Cadet Medal of Excellence.

Like the Bits and Bites commercial, every handful is different. Racing the Caribbean Sailing Association winter series is like that. Based on positive feedback from the Hitchhikers Guide, I thought I’d highlight the events based on my experience.
When I was first attracted to Olympic sailing all the boats were designed for big men. The top sailors were larger than life. They won big silver World Championship trophies and Olympic medals. Some wrote great books and others made fast sails and built fast boats.
Thunder Bay’s first annual iceboat training event was held on the last weekend of November. Spearheaded by the aptly named Dave Frost, the event attracted four out of town sailors joining the local contingent.
