Youngstown’s CanAm taking Canadian Money at Par!

Youngstown YC CanAm

June 27, 2019

From YYC, Youngstown

This year we are offering all Canadian boats registering for the regatta the benefit of paying their entry fee at par. We know the exchange has been painful and we would like to take that excuse away! Payment is not setup yet, but when it is, you can pay the same dollar amount in Canadian funds as we do in US funds. For now, please go online and sign up so we know you are coming – https://yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=6161.

We would like to emphasize that we are open to ALL boats, not just one design. We will have fleets for PHRF and IRC, multi-hull, and one design. If you come, we will have racing for you! We are hoping that boats from Buffalo, Toronto, Rochester, etc will make the trip and then race LYRA the week after. This year is a two day event, no Friday racing.

CanAm ChallengeA note from organizer Don Finkle

This is just for registration fees. We are trying to encourage more north of the border participation like in the old days. We really gave the Sharks a break. As the number of boats dwindles it puts more pressure on the club to balance the budget. This was not an easy decision but we want to give it a try. The last few regattas here have featured really good racing and perfect sailing weather. It is a shame we haven’t had more boats. I guess a lot of other regattas would be happy with 70-90 boats as we have had in the last few years but to us it is much less than we were accustomed to. It is a lot of effort for a club of our size. We rely on other clubs to assist us with the race committee work which we really focus on, and we are indebted to them for their assistance, including NOLSC, National, Whitby, and RCYC, all who provide boats as well as people, plus some folks from other clubs who come to help out. It has turned into a team effort.
