In 2016 Roger Van Vlack and Colin Andrews of Ashbridges Bay Yacht Club had the idea of creating a JFEST Great Lakes Regatta back in 2016 that would be hosted by different Clubs each year.

They approached Doug Bullock, the J105 Fleet Captain at the time, to see if the Fleet would support it. The timing was perfect to add it to the J105 schedule for third week of July starting in 2017 and that was the beginning.

jfestThe first year was hosted by ABYC and there were 42 boats, from the J105, J27, J80 and other PHRF rated JBoats. The second year in 2018 it was hosted by NYC and had 45 boats and this year it is being hosted by the RCYC and the fleet is expected to be 50 boats. EYC is lined up to host the regatta in 2020.

First Place 2017Just to show you we treat the social off the water as an important part of a successful regatta.

The goal, as always, is a well-rounded regatta – with a good social “off the water” BBQ complete with a live band and games.

JfestThe J105 Fleet contributed two trophies to the event. One, the JFEST Cup, for the overall winner and a JFEST Award for the volunteer of the regatta.

The Regatta will be held July 20-21 at Royal Canadian Yacht Club. Complete details at https://yachtscoring.com/emenu.cfm?eID=7296.
