“While we’re all in the giving….and receiving mood, I have a suggestion for the 2016 VIRS season: If there’s something we can all agree on, it’s that our oceans are precious! Protecting this life sustaining resource is a sentiment that we all share. We as sailors, also spend our recreational time out on the coastal waters, so keeping them pristine is a gift to ourselves and to future generations of boaters. To contribute in a small, but hopefully significant way, I suggest we create a VIRS CONSERVANCY CHEST, to travel the regatta circuit throughout the year. Sailors couls pop in a loonie a toonie or something larger if the spirit overcame them, at regattas and races throughout the year….totally painless and voluntary. At the season ending Thermopylae Regatta, we’ll crack open the chest, count up the booty and donate it to the Georgia Strait Alliance.”  Alex Fox, Van Isle 360
