Olson 25 Canadian Nationals

The Barrie Yacht Club (on Lake Simcoe's Kempenfelt Bay) recently hosted the 2011 Olson 25 Canadian National Championship Regatta on September 10/11, 2011.

The 2011 event featured a very competitive seven-boat fleet that sailed six races in total over two days. Starting early on Saturday morning and running through until Sunday evening, Olson 25 skippers and crew enjoyed a full slate of racing and conditions that resulted in very close competition in challenging and sometimes shifty conditions. Toward the end of day one, a clear favourite started to emerge and on day two Eugene West and the crew of It's All Good kept up the pressure – sailing right into the winner's circle where they accepted the trophy. After dropping the one allowable race, It's All Good finished with a perfect record of five straight wins.

The competitors from each team wish to recognize the organizers Diane, John, Richard and Melissa Osborn for their outstanding contributions to making this event possible, from organization, on-site management and prize gathering, their contributions were critical to the success of this event. The exceptionally managed race committee headed by Pat Lymburner, PRO, delivered fantastic racing and race course management.

Notes:
This event is growing, as is the popularity of the boat. The fleet started in 2004 with a single boat, and now there are 10 Olson 25's in Ontario.

The regatta was paired with the Kirby 25 North Americans, and the Olson 30 North Americans (September 8,9,10&11) and featured more than 100 crew and 23 boats.
