2009 Soling Worlds, Light Winds at the Second Day of Racing

A sunny day with light winds from the southeast greeted competitors at the 2009 Soling World Championship. Two races were completed for the day.

In race one, the right outside part of the lake paid as there seemed to be a bit more wind and team Gull/ www.milestonelife.com CAN 230 with Fogh, Cheer and Devries took an early lead, followed by BRA 73 Nehm, Ribeiro and Albrech. In a surprise, the third team was USA 824 with Crysdale, David Richards and John Bayldon sailing with their blue, red and white striped spinnaker.

In the second race, the wind improved and the swell decreased making it easier sailing. The Brazilian Nehm (BRA 73) who is sailing with borrowed sails as theirs were lost during the flight to Toronto, took the bullet and were closely followed by CAN 1 Odd & Ends (Abbott, Davis and Abbott). In third place capping off a good day was the Canadian Gull/www.milestonelife.com team CAN 230 (Fogh, Cheer and Devries).

The day's after race social entertainment is to be sponsored by Foghmarine and the Fogh family. A barbecue at the EYC clubhouse is planned.

Tomorrow's forecast predicts southwest winds, rotating into an approaching front and the PRO Steve Reid is hoping to completing the two races scheduled for tomorrow. His challenge will be to finish them before the front comes in. The start will be at 1100.
