The Shark 24 has enjoyed over 60 years of sailing success since the first launched in 1959. The strong leadership of sailing clubs across Canada and the Canadian Shark Class Association has maintained a energetic one design fleet. It shows the resilience of the Shark as this little boat remains the mainstay of the one-design sailing on the Great Lakes for now over 60 years!

The class is excited to announce the 2022 Counter Regatta Schedule with ten counter regattas and many other regional regattas scheduled from May to October.

Shark sailors complete annually for the Shark of the Year. To qualify for crews will need to participate in five counter regattas throughout the season, one of which being the Canadian Championship, North American Championship, or World Championship. Seven Canadian crews are already registered for the World Championships in Austria.

You may not be aware that CSCA has a youth sponsorship program that will pay the entry fees for two counter regattas, each season, for crews that meet the youth criteria. This program has been very successful over the past ten years in attracting youth participation and younger Shark owners to the class!

Who would of thought that the Shark designed in 1959 by George Hinterhoeller, then a 31-year-old boatwright living in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario would of designed a sailboat that would stand the test of time. In the past five years we have seen sailing clubs like Whitby Yacht Club and Sarnia Yacht purchase on mass any Shark they can find to start a racing program. This resurgence has seen dozens of Shark’s being fully restored to their original beauty.
