Aiming at the now-2021 Tokyo Olympics, Toronto’s Sarah Douglas, leading contender to represent Canada in Laser Radial updates her progress.

Sarah writes:
After eight months away from international competition, in late October I travelled to Gdansk, Poland to compete at the European Championships where I finished in 6th place. It was great to see this summer’s training pay off and identify where to focus my efforts this winter. Now in quarantine, I am focusing on rest and recovery while planning out the next couple of months.

While training during the spring and summer, we trained we continued to evaluate the possibility of travelling to Europe to compete in October. One month before the competition, with the help of Sail Canada and my integrated support team, we made the call to head to the European Championships.

Sarah DouglasAfter training in Toronto in September and a few days of preparation in Gdansk, we felt acclimatized to the cold weather in Poland and were ready to begin racing. The conditions in Poland were cold and tricky conditions. I am happy with how I stuck with my process goals and executed what I was there to work on. The international fleet is very competitive and any mistake is very costly but I am happy I had the right mindset to get through any tough situation.

Earning 6th place at the European Championships proves that I am on the right direction and shed light on what I need to work on next this winter.
