Lake Ontario Short-Handed Racing Series Race 4 is complete; all boats accounted for. What a great day! The wind and weather certainly cooperated. Everyone had a great time and we all were happy to be on the water racing again.
Saturday August 15th marked the first LOSHRS Race of 2020 and what a race it was. The forecast was encouraging and didn’t disappoint except perhaps for a few smaller boats at the end of the fleet. PRO Graham Dougall sent us off towards Bronte in 8-10 knots of wind. The Spinnaker Fleet launched at the start on a port tack just aft of the beam.

It was a beautiful sight and quite exhilarating. Some of us decided to stick to the rhumb line even as the wind went further and further back putting us on the edge of gybing. Others, especially those with asyms, reached into the lake and gybed back.

The fleet reached the Bronte mark quite closely clustered ready for an upwind back to PCYC. By that time, the wind was coming up as was the seastate. It was a beautiful sail although it put a few of us on the cusp of a sail change although we resisted the urge. The wind was fairly steady although there were good and not so good times to take a hitch into shore to possibly gain a lift. By the time “Jersey Girl” finished around 15:20h, we had 15 knot winds on the nose. It was just about a perfect windward-leeward and a good time was had by all.
